System Requirements

For listening to Steam Jukebox recordings
As the recordings are standard mp3 files they can be played using any of the following:
A software based mp3 player such as Windows Media Player or iTunes on a Mac.
A portable mp3 player such as iPod.
Albums on CD may be playable on some CD players which have an mp3 decoder built in. Check manufacturers specification.
Albums on CD or DVD may be played on many DVD players. Check manufacturers specification.

For the Steam Jukebox
A PC running a version of Microsoft Windows. The programme has been tested on systems running Windows 95, 98SE & XP Home Edition without problems.
Memory and hard disk space requirements are quite low and, if you can run Windows you should be OK.
You must have Windows Media Player v6.4 or later installed. This is available from the Microsoft web site.
A CD or DVD drive, a sound card and either speakers or headphones (I would recommend the later to get the best out of the recordings).

Installing Steam Jukebox
The Steam Jukebox programme can be installed either from a CD or DVD or it can be installed from the web.
If you wish to try a demonstration version visit the
steamsounds web site. The programme along with some short, low quality demonstration tracks can be downloaded from there.
If you have a
steamsounds Steam Jukebox album on CD or DVD you can find the programme in the install folder. Run setup.exe either from 'Run' on the Start button or from Windows Explorer to install the programme.

Once installed you will be able to run the programme from the icon on your desk top or the programme listed under 'Steamsounds' in All Programs on your Start Button.

Uninstalling Steam Jukebox
The Steam Jukebox programme can be uninstalled using the unistall programme provided with the programme. Look under ''Steamsounds' in All Programs on your Start Button.
You can also uninstall the programme from Control Panel, Add or Remove Programs.

Troubleshooting
The programme does not work - Do you have a version of Windows Media Player v6.4 or later installed? This is required for the programme to work.
You may need up to date version of the Visual Basic runtime library.
The installation package does include the VB runtime files required but will not overwrite them if they are already present on your machine.
I set it up this way as, personally, I do not like installations that overwrite existing files, even if they are newer, without giving the option not to!
You can obtain both Media Player and the latest VB runtime files from the Microsoft web site.
Click here for VB runtime files.

The programme still does not work - Visit the steamsounds web site and look at the latest information there.
If you still have a problem use the Feedback facility and describe the problem. Give as much information as possible including details of your operating system and PC specification along with any error messages that you see.

While playing the recordings, they sometimes pause briefly or stop - Unfortunately this is a common problem particularly with DVDs. Not all CD and DVD drives in computers are quite the same and, from time to time, some will have difficulty reading disks in them. When this happens they will try to recover and continuing reading the file which you are trying to play, this is what causes the pause. Occasionally they will refuse to read at all and this will cause playback to stop. Modern CD and DVD ROM drives seem to suffer from fewer of these problems.
I test all CDs and DVDs in two drives other than the one they were burnt in before dispatching them to make sure that they are OK but that doesn't guarantee that they will be OK in every other drive.
There is no simple solution if you find that you are having these problems. Sometimes ejecting the CD or DVD, re-inserting it and starting playback again will fix the problem. Sometimes rebooting your PC will help.
One solution that can be guaranteed to solve the problem is to copy the audio files onto the hard disk in your PC and play them from there. The contents of a single CD will require 700MB of hard disk space and a DVD a little less than 5GB. If you have sufficient space on your hard disk I would strongly recommend that you do this. See this page for instructions on how to do this.
If you have a CD or DVD writer in your PC you can try copying the disk. Having done that you should be able to play the new disk in the drive in which it was created without problems.
If these problems persist visit the
steamsounds web site and use the Feedback facility to get in touch, I may be able to make other suggestions.

Strange things happen if I'm using Media Player and Steam Jukebox at the same time - I'm not suprised!
Steam Jukebox uses part of Windows Media player to play the recordings so using the two together could be confusing. Not recommended!

I'm getting errors while using the programme - Visit the steamsounds web site and look at the latest information there. Your problem may already have been dealt with.
Or perhaps you've found a bug! Use the Feedback facility on the web site to let me know. Please give as much detail as possible including details of your operating system, PC specification and any error messages that you see.
The most common error message will tell you that there is a problem playing a track. This will almost always be due to the mp3 file requested not being present. Do you have the correct CD or DVD available? Have you copied all the required files to your hard disk? Is the CD or DVD ROM drive working correctly? Try ejecting the disk and reinserting it. Some older DVD & CD drives may not read reliably. You will get better results by copying the contents to your hard disk. See this page for instructions on how to do this.

Can I get updates to the programme? - Yes. Like the programme, updates are free and will be found at the steamsounds web site.
